September and October bring scarecrows of all personalities to the Garden. Traditional, scary or just plain fun, they are all imaginative and add a whimsical atmosphere. Trees take on a new look in the Enchanted Forest. Music and hayrides on the weekends, the amazing sorghum maze and some extra-special events make for a fall of fabulous family fun!

Scarecrow Trail Events

  • Scarecrows on Parade, September 3, 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

    The first ever Scarecrow Parade kicks off the Scarecrow Trail and Enchanted Forest. Let your inner Scarecrow shine through by parading through the Garden in a ‘Crow costume. Here's the schedule of activities:

    • 9:30: Participants in the Scarecrow Costume contest meet in the Boeing Education Classroom. Age groups are 0-4 year, 5-8 years, and 9 years and up. Winners will be named for each age group.
    • 10:30: Fishing Rodeo. Bring your own cane pole. Bait will be provided. Ages 5 and up meet at the lake; under age 5 meet at the entrance to the Children’s Garden.
    • 11-2: Relay games throughout the Children’s Garden.
    • 11-2: Crafts in the Children’s Garden. Ages 5 and under will be located at the Pergola and ages 6 and over will be in the Potting Shed.
    • 12: Rubber Ducky Race at the Boeing/Toyota Amphitheatre. Ducks will be available for purchase for $5 before the event.
    • 12:30: Winners of Fishing Contest announced.

  • Health Fair, September 15th, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

    As part of Crestwood Medical Center’s sponsorship, they are hosting a Health Walk featuring health screenings, information by their health professionals, a designated walking path through the Garden and a blood drive. No advance registration is needed.

  • HOOT IN THE WOODS, Friday and Saturday, October 26 and 27, 6-9 p.m., Nature Trail

    Bring a family member or a friend for a Hoot in the Woods. Visit the Sorghum Maze and see what goblins await us. Venture into the Enchanted Forest and hear ghost stories and spooky music. Enjoy gooey pots with eyeballs and "innards," the "BOO-ffet," and lots of spooky surprises.
    Members $8/adults, $3/children ages 3-18, non-members $10/adults, and $5/children ages 3-18.
    Join us at the Grisham Pavilion to start this night of fun with a hayride. Hope to see you there!

  • BOO-tanica, Saturday, Oct. 27, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Children's Garden

    Calling all witches, goons, ghosts, & goblins: we need your help to make our Halloween the most fright-tabulous day ever!!! Join us in the Children's Garden for exciting festivities including the cauldron grab, jack-o-lantern jump, face painting, and much, much more! Don't forget to wear your costume. There will be a costume contest at 10 a.m. in the Boeing-Toyota Amphitheatre. Enjoy entertainment provided by Metropolitan Disc Jockey Service and Murphy's Marvelous Magic. After the fun and games are over, take a hayride or walk the Scarecrow Trail and the Enchanted Forest.
    Members free; non-members, Garden admission.
    Additional tickets for individual activities and food will be sold at the entrance to the Children's Garden.
