Spring Break at Huntsville Botanical Garden
25 Tons of Sand Arrive for Sculpture Exhibit

Huntsville, Alabama:  It’s so fantastic, it’s SAND-tastic! We’re bringing the beach to the Garden this spring and piling on the fun!

Huntsville Botanical Garden is making room for 25 tons of sand that will be transformed into a much larger than life sand sculpture. Spring break at the Garden, March 22 – 29, 2014, will find visitors marveling at a custom-made sand sculpture from The Sand Sculpture Company. Along with the exhibit, Garden guests will find interactive, engaging family activities all week long.

Sand artists from the Sand Sculpture Company will create over-sized sand art in the Garden, with a nod to our 2014 exhibit, Alice’s Garden of Wonders. Watch them sculpt and create a unique work of sand art. This massive one-of-a-kind work of art will be carved at the Garden, delighting visitors with the incredible process. Carving begins March 22 and will finish March 29, providing something new for visitors to see each and every day. This unique approach to art is art in action: creating something extraordinary from the ordinary. The process, and the result, will inspire people of all ages. The Sand Sculpture Company is a full-time professional display company which has created hundreds of works of wonder across the globe. This spring, you’ll be able to explore and enjoy this type of wonder at the Garden. Once sculpted, the sand art will remain until the end of April.

For spring break, the Garden is the destination for fun. In addition to marveling at the creation of the super sand structure, children may enjoy daily activities from 1 pm to 3 pm such as building sand castles, creating beachy fairy gardens, digging for dinosaur bones and so much more. On Wednesday, March 26, the Southeastern Raptor Center will be here for two shows, 11 am and 1 pm. Shows will be $2 plus Garden admission for non-members. The Raptors are always a favorite when they visit the Garden and the raptor educators provide education, conservation information, and entertainment.

Huntsville Botanical Garden is located at 4747 Bob Wallace Avenue in Huntsville, AL, is open year-round and features the nation’s largest open-air butterfly house, a picture-perfect aquatic garden, spectacular nature trails, numerous specialty gardens - including an interactive children’s garden - and a variety of plant collections. This beautiful 112-acre Garden is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization run by only 35 employees and over 2600 active volunteers. With five distinct festivals each year, Beaks and Barks, Huntsville Blooms, Summer Butterfly House, Fall Scarecrow Trail and Holiday Galaxy of Lights, you’ll soon see why we say There’s Always Something Growing On at Huntsville Botanical Garden!
