HUNTSVILLE BOTANICAL GARDEN CELEBRATES THE 18TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY LIGHT EXTRAVAGANZA, GALAXY OF LIGHTS
Huntsville, Ala. – For the eighteenth year, the Huntsville Botanical Garden is transforming its gardens into a dazzling display of lights in celebration of the holiday season. Galaxy of Lights is a magnificent holiday light extravaganza featuring larger-than-life animated light displays. Special exhibits include a holiday village, dinosaurs, wild animals, a magical twinkling icicle forest, garden scenes, animated snowmen, the twelve days of Christmas and more. New exhibits will delight this year including Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Golfer Hitting from a Sand Trap and a Fisherman Landing a Bass. Other surprises are in-store as existing displays are re-worked and transformed. In all, visitors will be treated to 170 lighted displays.
On November 15 – 18, and 22 – 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (last admission taken), visitors can walk at their own pace through the winter wonderland of holiday lights, enjoy the falling snowflakes in the icicle forest, visit the popular Garden Railway-- all decked out for the holidays, and stop for a cookie and hot cocoa along the route. Don’t forget your camera. Children can visit with Santa Claus and guests will enjoy snapping a picture-perfect family memory at the new toy soldier photo station.
On Monday, November 18 and 25, walkers are welcome to bring the family pooch for the popular Dog Walking Nights.
Admission for walk-through is $6 adults and $3 for children ages 3-17 and $1 for dogs. Members receive a discounted rate for walking nights. No cars are permitted on walking nights though, in the event of rain, the night will become a drive-thru experience.
“There’s just no better way to get in the holiday spirit by walking, or driving, through Galaxy of Lights,” said Carol Casey, Director of Marketing. “Our out-of-this world light extravaganza celebrates the season and makes it merry and bright.”
Drive-through nights begin on Thanksgiving night and continue nightly from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. through December 31, 2013. Admission for drive through is $20 per car ($1 discount for donated canned food, paper product, pet food, children’s book, warm coat, or Toy for Tots). Members can purchase discounted tickets in advance at the Shoppe at the Garden. The Galaxy of Lights will be closed on December 2 and 3 for the Galaxy 5k and Galaxy Fun Run events.
