The Great Backyard Bird Count - Zoology in the Garden, K-2
Tuesday February 12, 2013 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Anderson Education Center Classroom

The Great Backyard Bird Count (or GBBC) takes place over four days in February each year and is for kids too!

Students learn how to identify birds through classroom lessons and outdoor exploration in the Garden.  We will show everyone how to watch and count birds in their yard and the Garden followed by complete instructions on the process of reporting the birds sighted. By doing this, we learn what kinds of birds are being seen in the winter and whether there are more or fewer of them than before.

K-2: Birds are around us all the time! Are all blue birds jays? Are Cardinals always red?  Learn how to recognize and identify birds using shapes, colors, habits and songs or calls. Find out how to use binoculars, and go on a hike in search of birds. Bring your own binoculars! Dress for the weather as you will be outside.

Fee: Members $8, Non-members $10 (includes all materials and supplies)
Reservations required. For reservation information and payment options, click here.

All of our new homeschool options align with curricula for K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Each program uses the Garden’s 120 acres of developed and natural areas as a teaching classroom, while connecting to National Education Standards and the Alabama Course of Study.
