Internship Opportunities

The Huntsville Botanical Garden periodically offers unpaid internships designed for you to experience professional development and enhance your resume by providing technical training while at the Garden. Unpaid interns receive the benefit of a 1 year Garden membership, as well as discounts at our retail Shoppe at the Garden and Clementine's Cafe during the their membership period. Please note that unpaid interns are considered volunteers, and as such are not employees of the Garden.

Anderson Education Center Animal Keeper Intern       Departments: Horticulture & Education

Internship Period: Start date of May through mid-August 

Weekly Hours: Ability to commit to 20 hours of service per week as scheduled; some weekends required (see Duties listed)

Duties Include: Working directly with a Horticulture Specialist and the Director of Education, the Animal Keeper internship will include hands-on care and keep of the fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and insects that reside in and around the Purdy Butterfly House. The intern will be responsible for following all USDA/APHIS requirements. 

Experience & Skills:  No prior experience required. A successful applicant is someone who is outgoing and friendly, enjoys working with people of all ages, loves working with animals, and is able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Education: High School Diploma with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.


Children's Garden Horticulture Intern       Departments: Horticulture & Education

Internship Period: Start date of May through mid-August 

Weekly Hours: Ability to commit to 20 hours of service per week as scheduled; some weekends required (see Duties listed)

Duties Include: Intern will assist the Horticulture staff in their daily duties of planting, pruning, watering and general maintenance of all horticultural elements within the Garden; Intern will engage in practical hands-on activities throughout the various zones designated.

Experience & Skills:  No prior experience required. A successful applicant is someone who enjoys working with people of all ages, is a skilled observer, has the ability to problem solve, and is able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Education: High School Diploma with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
