Garden Railway

Like many areas in our Garden, the Garden Railway is truly a volunteer effort. It began with a donation of trains, track and buildings by Mrs. Ruth Morrison and installation of the track and buildings by Tony and Nate Luchner as Eagle Scout projects. The miniature landscape was designed and installed by members of the Living Art Bonsai Society, who continue to maintain the area.

This small European village features a church, fire station, restaurant, and homes amid a waterfall, two ponds (with fish) and a stream. Forests, a bog area, and a farm complete the scene. Over 1200 plants were used to populate the forests, bog, village landscapes, and farm. Plants include evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs, as well as perennial ground covers and annuals. At various times, one of 5 locomotives can be seen traveling the rails, over a bridge, under the waterfall, and through the village and farm. Thomas the Tank Engine runs at designated times during the spring and summer. A delight to adults and children alike, the Garden Railway operates from mid-March through December.

The Santa Express runs during the Christmas season and during Galaxy of Lights walking nights.
